Hi and welcome back! I would love to first talk about the chakras, as this is crucial to the healing journey. We’re looking for balance in all aspects of our lives, and our bodies should be balanced to reach peak health. The chakras themselves focus on physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects so we want to be focused on balancing them all. I will be going through the main chakras and focusing on some symptoms for unbalanced and balanced chakras. So, let’s get to learning and understanding!
The chakras are the energy points in our bodies that correspond to different body parts, organs, and nerves. They are the areas of our energetic bodies that affect our emotional and physical well-being. We have many different chakras, but there are seven main ones that are talked about and focused on. These seven are the root, sacral, solar plexus, heart, throat, third eye, and the crown.
The Root Chakra
The root chakra, also known as “Muladhara,” is the first one and has the lowest frequency of the seven. It is associated with the color red and the earth element and is located at the base of your spine. Your root chakra is responsible for your stability and sense of security. It creates your foundation for life, and it helps you feel grounded and ready to go through challenges.
When this chakra is out of alignment, it can cause depression, anxiety, and intestinal and lower body issues. Think Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn’s disease, IBS, and leaky gut. Although all of the lower three chakras affect intestinal health, the root chakra is the foundation for it. For this reason, it is incredibly important to align it and keep it balanced.
How to balance
Some ways to balance your root chakra include walking barefoot outdoors, yoga specifically for the root chakra, dancing, wearing the color red, visualizing the color red, eating red foods, and even saying affirmations and journaling about the root chakra. Some foods associated with the root are tomatoes, beets, strawberries, apples, cherries, garlic, ginger, eggs, cheese, butter, yogurt, mushrooms, red bell peppers. If you do like working with crystals you can use garnet, hematite, black obsidian, blood stone, tourmaline, and onyx. This chakra is associated with the frequency of 396 HZ, so I do recommend listening to this frequency as well.
Some of my favorite affirmations for the root chakra are:
• I am whole and enough.
• I feel at home in my body.
• I am safe and secure.
• I have everything I need.
• I am rooted in this present moment.
• I am worthy of love and care.
Try saying these affirmations everyday and truly believe them. My number one favorite way to balance all chakras is through yoga. Yoga really opens up your body and those energy centers so that you can balance yourself. There are so many different root chakra sequences you can find online and follow along. I also love journaling and there are many journal prompts that you can follow for this chakra as well.
I do love to focus on this chakra the most because it is the building block for all other chakras. It is so important to be grounded and feel safe in your body to heal. When you don’t feel safe, you’re automatically activating your fight or flight response through the sympathetic nervous system, which will increase your stress hormones. For the purpose of your health and well-being, we want to keep our cortisol levels low. Chronically high cortisol levels will increase inflammation and a dysregulated nervous system, which comes with many health issues.
For these reasons, the root chakra is so important and should *always* be balanced. I have spent a lot of time balancing my root chakra. I always make sure to add grounding yoga poses into my sequences often.
The Sacral Chakra
The second chakra is the sacral chakra. The sacral chakra, also known as “Svadhishthana,” is located below the navel. It is associated with the water element and the color orange. This chakra is associated with the bladder, kidneys, and the reproductive organs. This is the energy center that is connected to your sensuality and creativity. The main focus of this chakra is pleasure and enjoyment of life. When this chakra is balanced, our relationships with ourselves and others feel fun, pleasureful, nurturing, and balanced.
Some physical symptoms to look out for with an unbalanced sacral chakra are chronic low back pain, reproductive issues, UTIs, bladder and kidney complications, and other lower abdominal issues (still including digestive issues as well). Mentally, a blocked sacral chakra can manifest into codependency, feeling overwhelmed by your emotions, fear of change, feelings of shame/guilt, lack of confidence, commitment issues, lack of drive, lack of interest in pleasurable activities, and difficulty expressing emotions, needs, and/or creativity. Look out for sexual addictions, aggression, manipulative behavior, jealousy, mood swings, poor boundaries, unhealthy attachments to others, and feeling overly emotional.
How To balance
This chakra can be balanced through tapping into your creative side–journaling, art, dance, singing, etc. Taking time to care for your needs can also balance this chakra. Taking a calming bath with essential oils is a great way to relax and open this chakra. Wear the color orange, visualize the color orange, and eat orange food. Some foods associated with the sacral chakra are carrots, oranges, peaches, yams, sweet potatoes, salmon, walnuts, cinnamon, almonds. As with all chakras, you can also do yoga to tap into your sensual side and practice some affirmations.
Some affirmations I like to practice for this chakra are:
• I am a lovable and desirable being.
• I deserve to have my needs met in all areas of my life.
• My creativity is endless.
• I enjoy pleasure in all areas of my life.
• I embrace my sensuality.
In addition, if you do like crystals, you can include citrine, orange carnelian, orange aventurine, tiger’s eye, sunstone, and amber. The sacral chakra is associated with the frequency of 417 HZ, so I do recommend listening to this frequency as well.
To summarize, the sacral chakra is about enjoying your life, being confident in yourself, and expressing yourself creatively. Do not be afraid to have child-like fun. This chakra really highlighted my inner child. It forced me to focus on healing that inner child and not being afraid of being my authentic self. I have always felt so blocked creatively and was afraid of change, but as soon as I let my guard down and allowed my inner child to glow, I already felt better and started embracing my creative side through dance, art, and music. Find the things that you enjoy doing the most and make time to do those things every single day.
The solar plexus chakra
Our third chakra is the solar plexus chakra, also known as “Manipura.” This chakra is located above the navel in the upper abdomen. It is associated with the fire element, the color yellow, and has to do with personal power. It focuses on your self-worth and your self-esteem. The solar plexus chakra ignites your inner fire and unleashes your full potential. Because it governs your inner fire, a balanced solar plexus chakra gives you high energy and a strong sense of identity and purpose. A balanced solar plexus chakra manifests into a clear sense of purpose, feeling empowered, good digestion, control over emotions, and a clear mind.
An out of balance solar plexus chakra can manifest into low self-esteem, negative self-image, victim mentality, feeling stuck, and difficulty in getting things done. Some physical symptoms can be indigestion, fatigue and sluggishness, depression, eating disorders, IBS and IBD, ulcers, diabetes, heartburn, and issues with the pancreas, liver, and colon. Look out for insecurity, uncontrolled anger and irritation, need of approval from others, controlling behavior, and difficulty setting boundaries.
How to balance
To balance this chakra, eat yellow foods, visualize the color yellow, meditate for your solar plexus, practice affirmations, practice yoga, and be around fire. By that I mean, building a bonfire, turning on your fireplace, or even lighting candles to do yoga, meditate, read, etc. I love burning candles for my solar plexus and I love fire gazing as well. Because the solar plexus is also associated with the sun, get some daily sunlight. Build that fire within you. Some foods associated with this chakra are: bananas, pineapple, lemons, sunflower seeds, turmeric, mango, corn, and yellow peppers.
Some affirmations you can practice for your solar plexus are:
• I acknowledge the power within me.
• I welcome new experiences with confidence and excitement.
• I am fearless and full of courage.
• I can achieve anything I set my mind to.
• I honor the power within me.
• I forgive myself for past mistakes, and I learn from them.
• I stand in my personal power.
Some crystals and stones you can incorporate for your solar plexus are citrine, yellow tourmaline, topaz, and amber. The solar plexus is also associated with the frequency of 528 HZ, so I do recommend listening to this frequency throughout the day. By balancing your solar plexus chakra, you’re balancing the power within you. You’re igniting your fire to live your purpose and do so with your personal identity.
The Heart Chakra
The fourth chakra is the heart chakra, also known as “Anahata.” This chakra is associated with the color green and the air element and is located in the center of the chest. This chakra is said to bridge the physical and spiritual energies in the body. This is the energy center that lets us give and receive love, whether that be romantic, platonic, familial, or for yourself. The stronger this energy center is, the more love, compassion, gratitude, and joy you will feel and experience. A balanced heart chakra manifests into patience, gratitude, compassion, empathy, acceptance, forgiveness, and balanced emotions.
An out of balance heart chakra can manifest into chronic upper back pain, circulation problems, asthma or difficulty breathing, immune system deficiency, high or low blood pressure, and other heart and lung conditions. This chakra affects the heart, lungs, chest, arms, and hands. A blocked heart chakra can manifest into codependency, manipulative behavior, possessiveness, judgmental attitude, and a lack of self-love. Look out for shyness, tendencies to be antisocial, feelings of loneliness, fear of intimacy, difficulty trusting others, and putting yourself in the role of the rescuer or the victim.
How to Balance
Some ways to balance this chakra include wearing the color green, eating green foods associated with the heart chakra, visualization of this energy center opening up with green light, practicing heart-opening affirmations, yoga and loving meditation, keeping a gratitude journal, and drinking heart opening beverages like cacao. Of course, if you like crystals and stones you can wear rose quartz, rhodochrosite, malachite, jade, and aventurine. Some foods to eat for this chakra are leafy greens, green tea, avocado, cucumber, and celery.
Some affirmations to open the heart chakra are:
• My heart is full of unconditional love for all beings.
• I am worthy of receiving and giving love.
• I am full of gratitude for the love in my life.
• Love is all around me.
• All of my relationships are loving and harmonious.
• I love myself to the fullest.
For this chakra, I also love to spend time in nature, especially gazing at the greenery and nature around me. Green is associated with balance and harmony, so what better way to balance yourself than spending time in nature. The heart chakra is also associated with the frequency of 639 HZ, so I recommend incorporating this frequency into your day. Take part in any heart opening meditations, hug your loved ones or yourself, and make sure to stay grateful for the things you do have. Opening this chakra is so crucial for bridging the physical and spiritual energies and is one of the most important chakras for attracting love, abundance, and your dreams.
The Throat Chakra
Next, we have the throat chakra, also known as “Vishuddha.” This chakra is connected to your communication, self-expression, and your ability to listen. It is associated with the color blue, the element of sound of space, and connects the energies between your basic needs and your spiritual needs. A balanced throat chakra will help you speak up fearlessly and help you be open to listening to and hearing others. It will allow you to talk openly and honestly, articulate your ideas and feelings, help you feel heard and understood, and improve the way you speak to yourself.
An unbalanced throat chakra can manifest into chronic sore throat, mouth ulcers, gum disease, thyroid problems, laryngitis, ear infections, sinus infections, tight soldiers, and a raspy throat. When this chakra is blocked, you can have a fear about speaking your personal truth, have a difficult time expressing your thoughts, being unwilling or unable to speak up or defend yourself, shutting down for difficult conversations, and feel anxious about communicating or speaking up.
How To Balance
Healing and balancing your throat chakra can be very simple. As always, yoga is my favorite way to balance this chakra. Practicing yoga poses that bend and stretch your neck can be very helpful, but there are also yoga sequences you can find that dedicate the entire time to balancing and opening your throat chakra.
Another great way to balance this chakra is by chanting, singing, and humming to get your throat vibrating. It can also be balanced by drinking warm tea and honey to keep your throat feeling healthy and not irritated, as well as wearing clothing to protect your neck. Wearing the color blue, visualizing the color blue, listening to 741 HZ frequency, practicing affirmations, and eating foods associated with the throat chakra can all heal this energy center as well. Some foods associated with this energy center are blueberries, coconut, blackberries, honey, yogurt, brazil nuts, and blue corn.
Some affirmations to practice for this chakra are:
• I speak my truth freely and openly.
• My voice matters.
• I allow others to see the real me.
• I always express my emotions.
• It is safe for me to express my feelings.
I have always struggled with a blocked throat chakra. I was always afraid to speak my truth, stand up for myself, and deal with any sort of confrontation. I’m not sure when it started, but I stopped sharing things with people. If I ever had an issue, I would figure it out on my own or push the feelings so deep down until I exploded with anger.
I still have a harder time opening up about how I’m feeling, so something that has helped me a lot is journaling. Nobody is going to read my journal so I’m not afraid to write everything down. Even if that means I have to write down how I’m feeling and write down what I want to say and practice saying it so that I’m prepared to speak up for myself. It’s an extra step but it really does help me since I can get anxious about speaking up.
Of course, journaling is great for all chakras and there are so many journal prompts that you can find that can really help, but a lot of the time, I just write whatever comes to mind. Nothing to follow except my own feelings. I write it all out until it basically doesn’t exist for me anymore. Just the basic act of doing that can get your throat chakra opening up and balancing.
The Third Eye Chakra
Next, we have the third eye chakra, also known as “Ajna.” This energy center is located on the forehead between the eyebrows. This chakra is associated with the color indigo and the element of light. The third eye chakra is tied to intuition, higher knowledge, imagination, visualization, and spiritual connection. Think of this chakra as your sixth sense, as it helps you perceive a vision that is beyond the physical world. A balanced third eye chakra manifests into self-awareness, clarity, trusting your inner knowledge, balanced decisions, trusting your intuition, and being able to tune into your imagination.
When this chakra is blocked, there is a loss of connection to your inner wisdom, feelings of being lost, feeling stuck, and brain fog. Your mind can constantly be overworking and there can be mental difficulties as well. An out of balance third eye chakra can cause eye strain, headaches, migraines, dizziness, hearing issues, confusion, insomnia, nightmares, memory issues, poor vision, delusions, and anxiety.
How To Balance
The third eye chakra can be aligned through meditation and visualization, proper sleep, aromatherapy, yoga, healing frequencies, eating foods associated with this chakra, and chanting/practicing mantras and affirmations. In meditation, focus on the space between your eyebrows and visualize this indigo color, while “looking” at this area. It may take some time but keep doing it. This works for all chakras as well, and I do like visualizing each energy center in its designated color shining vibrantly through.
Next, make sure that you are getting enough sleep every night, preferably 7 to 8 hours. I love diffusing essential oils while I sleep and some oils you can diffuse for this chakra are lavender, juniper, and frankincense. Some crystals and stones you can wear or carry with you to activate this chakra are azurite, labradorite, fluorite, tanzanite, sodalite, and lapis lazuli.
The frequency of the third eye chakra is 852 HZ, so play it whenever it’s needed. The best time would probably be during meditation, yoga, or when you’re sleeping. Healing frequencies are so easy to incorporate, so don’t hesitate to play them throughout your day for whichever chakra, or play them all throughout the day.
Try eating grapes, eggplant, purple carrots, purple cabbage, blueberries, and cacao for this chakra. All are beneficial, but cacao is on another level. Ceremonial grade cacao is great for opening up your third eye and it has so many benefits to go along with it. Our ancestors have used cacao and performed ceremonies and rituals with cacao to connect with higher beings.
And of course, some of my favorite mantras and affirmations for this chakra are:
• The knowledge of the universe is within me.
• My mind is open to all possibilities and life experiences.
• I have everything I need within myself.
• I trust my intuition.
• I release uncertainty and trust in the universe.
The Crown Chakra
Last but not least, we have the crown chakra, also known as “Sahasrara.” This chakra is located at the top of the head and is associated with the colors white and purple. It is connected to divine consciousness. This energy center gives us access to higher states of consciousness and gets us in touch with the universe. The crown chakra is associated with the pituitary gland, the pineal, the hypothalamus, the brain, and the whole nervous system. Energetically, the crown chakra and the root chakra have a connection because they are both at the limits of the chakra system. The crown chakra is the gateway to your cosmic self and to universal consciousness. This chakra brings clarity and enlightened wisdom.
A crown chakra imbalance can cause closed-mindedness, living in your head, disconnection to God/Spirit/Creator/Universe, isolation, loneliness, lack of direction, and the inability to set or maintain goals. It can also manifest into neurological disorders, Alzheimer’s, insomnia, depression, schizophrenia, pineal gland disorders, nerve pain, and migraines.
How To Balance
Balancing this chakra can be done through meditation, yoga, healing frequencies, stones and crystals, reiki healing, detox and fasting, visualization, and wearing the colors white or purple. Visualize the colors white, purple, or both shining from your head like a crown. As you do this, listen to the frequency of 963 HZ. Feel your crown chakra opening and accepting the love and guidance from the universe. Diamond, quartz, and amethyst are great for balancing the crown chakra. Wear them as jewelry, carry them with you, or hold them during meditation to activate this energy center. This energy center loves reiki healing, so you can always find a reiki practitioner to run that universal energy through you and connect you to source. Because this chakra is the farthest from material sources, it loves when the body is detoxed or when there is fasting involved. Drink lots of purified water and make sure to stay hydrated. Of course, make sure to be safe while fasting and don’t do it if you can’t. You should not be forcing yourself to do something if your body won’t allow it.
And of course, some mantras and affirmations you can try practicing for this energy center are:
• I am divinely guided, protected, and inspired by the universe.
• Every day, I feel more connected to my spirit.
• I openly accept spiritual guidance from a higher power.
• I surrender to my highest good.
• I am learning to release attachments to physical things– my happiness comes from
within.
Add Some Prayer
Another way I love activating this chakra is through prayer. I mean just talking to the universe, or whatever you believe. The only thing I would say is to first express your gratitude for the things you do have, and then state what you are seeking whether it be guidance, love, abundance, health, etc. This is a great way to connect to the universe and then you can start paying attention to any synchronicities that you see that can guide you in the right direction. These prayers can be said aloud or even written down. There are no rules so do what feels the best for you. Just find some communication with the divine to guide you through life.
Those are the seven main chakras and they heavily affect our health and well-being. Take some time to evaluate the symptoms you do have, if you have any, and take the steps to start balancing each chakra.
Out of all the ways to balance each chakra, I think the most important is to get a steady yoga routine. Yoga is so beneficial for our bodies and can really heal each chakra. There are so many yoga sequences online that focus on healing each chakra and there are even some that focus on all the chakras, but here is one that includes all chakras that I absolutely love doing. I also think it is most important to start balancing your first chakra as this is the main foundation for your well-being. We need to feel safe in our bodies in order to start the healing process.
Just the simple act of balancing your chakras can help start your healing journey. Let me know how you liked this post and if it gave you some insight on what chakras you need to be balancing!
